Chios island
Possible birthplace of Homer, as well as the mathematicians Hippocrates and Oenopides, Chios is located in the northeast of the Aegean seas.
The island is only a short distance from the coast of Asia Minor, and specifically at the height of Cesme. It is the fifth largest island in Greece and has a population that lives both in the city of Chios and in the 64 villages of the island. The main products it exports mastic, oil, figs and wine, while it has an international reputation for the size and quality of its shipping. Administratively, together with the islands of Oinousses and Psara, it forms the prefecture of Chios with a population of 52,600 inhabitants (census 2011). Capital of the prefecture is the city of Chios, which is also called Chora.
